The wild beaches of Ile d'Yeu

From Les Hautes Mers, discover the wild beaches and coves of Île d'Yeu: unspoilt dunes, pine forests, cliffs and sea air punctuate the walk and reveal a different atmosphere at every turn.

In the north-west, 25 minutes by bike from Les Hautes Mers, La Gournaise beach reveals a series of small coves in a very natural, sparsely populated environment, close to the Grand Phare lighthouse. The rocky shoreline makes swimming difficult, but it's an ideal setting for walking and taking in the sea air.

On the northeast coast, Plage des Sapins offers a ribbon of fine sand bordered by pine trees, with views of the mainland from the dune, in a gentle, family atmosphere. It's just a 20-minute bike ride from Les Hautes Mers.

On the wild coast, Plage de la Belle-Maison (Ker Daniau) is a more confidential cove surrounded by rocks. Just 18 minutes by bike or 1 hour's walk away, it offers a spectacular setting but requires caution due to sea conditions.

Further south, the Plage des Vieilles opens onto a large cove leading to the small Port des Vieilles; in season, the beach offers water sports activities (surf school, pirogues, kayaks) in a friendly, family atmosphere. The beach is 4 km from the hotel, a 15-minute bike ride.

Finally, near the Pointe des Corbeaux, the Grande Conche beach offers around 700m of clear sand, hemmed in by small dunes, in a particularly unspoilt environment. It takes 28 minutes by bike (8 km) or 1 h 45 on foot to reach this pristine spot from Les Hautes Mers.

Not far away, the Notre-Dame de la Paix chapelnear the former Saint-Hilaire monastery, bears witness to the local spiritual life. Finally, head for Saint-Sauveur,its white houses with colorful shutters and cobbled streets invite you to stroll around and capture the authentic soul of the island.
